In India, every day of the year is punctuated with the celebration of a festival. Festivals mark seasonal changes, bountiful harvests, the waxing and waning of the moon, birthdays of Gods and saints, or the anniversaries of religious and mythological events. Many of the festivals are common to the people of the different regions, although they may have different names or customs.
Vidhya Subramanian's senior students Madhavi Cheruvu, Nandita Sriram, and Anuradha Sivaram will give us a taste of India's rich culture and heritage by showcasing a few of the popular festivals.
