GANDHI Nonviolence & Peace ESSAY/ARTWORK CONTEST


TOPIC A) " Gandhi: The message of Nonviolence and Peace & Community Service"
TOPIC B) The importance of Nonviolence and Peace and Community Service or
TOPIC C) How I use Nonviolence and Peace and Community Service in my Life

The 2004 Gandhi Day- World Nonviolence and Peace Day
is scheduled for Saturday, Oct 2, 2004 at the Cubberley Auditorium from 4PM – 8:00 p.m. The Essay Contest is between 4:00PM to 4:45PM.
Artwork Displays can be brought in at that time or made during that period subject to room and availability.Early Registration Encouraged
Artists are responsible for own easels and display etc. There will be several other great activities to follow. Winning entries may be displayed at future events and newsletter.

OPEN TO: Sub Jr: (Below 8),--- Jr: (8 to 13 yrs.)--- Sr: ( 13+ above) AND Open Category for All College age and Above participants.

The participants can submit an essay, poem, or creative artwork that includes the subject of our 2004 theme - - Nonviolence and Peace and Community Service and inclusive of philosophies, legacy, life, services, and accomplishments of Mahatma Gandhi.

Information Required: On the reverse side of the essay/artwork, the following information should be available legibly: your full name, age, address, city, Phone Number, and If minors-your PARENTS NAME, School or Institution and your grade. Various prizes will be awarded depending on entries received

A) GANDHI DAY ESSAY CONTEST:
Essay/Poem/Creative Work will be graded/judged on originality, creativity, content and substance, development of ideas, subject within the topic/theme, creative thinking, sentence structure and grammar, neatness and legibility, and following directions of essay requirements.
ESSAY REQ: One submission per person
• Sub Jr: (Below 8): 50-75 words or less
• Jr: (8 to 13 yrs.): 75-100 words or less
• Sr: ( 13+ above): 100-200 words or less
• OPEN Category (all ages)- Up to 300 words

B) GANDHI DAY ARTWORK AND MIXED MEDIA DISPLAY:
Children, Youth and adults are invited to incorporate the message PEACE- NONVIOLENCE COMMUNITY SERVICE and their appreciation of diverse ethnic, cultural and other traditions that enrich their lives and bring our world closer together.
RULES OF THE COMPETITION
1. The Message Each design must incorporate the Theme of the event
2. Size: Any Table top sized display. Artists are responsible for mounting and display easels etc
3. The Design: Drawn, sketched or painted etc in any style on paper or cardboard. or mixed media
No moving parts or mechanical and dangerous parts please.
4. The Number of Entries-from each person is unlimited- subject to acceptance and approval

I warrant that I am the sole author/artist of, and have exclusive rights to the enclosed Material. I hereby indemnify Gandhi Day Organizers and its sponsors from any and all liability and responsibility for loss of, damage to, preservation, or return of the enclosed material. I also release publication rights for the enclosed material or any segment or portion thereof to the sponsors, and authorize the use my name and work in any publicity or promotions. I agree to honor and abide by all the rules and agree to accept the decision of the judges and Organizers as final.
