ABHINAV BINDRA Wins India's 1st Individual Gold Medal at the Beijing Olympics 2008

 India's first Individual Gold Medal at the Olympics was by Shooter Abhinav Bindra. He won the gold medal in Men's 10 metre Air rifle event at the Beijing Olympics.

Qinan Zhu of China scored 699.7 for second place and Finlands Henri Hakkinen finished third with a total of 699.4.
Team mate Gagan Narang didnot qualify for the final round and finished a creditable 9th overall with a score of 595/600.

Bindra becomes the First individual gold medal winner for India.

India has won several Golds in Field Hockey in the past and RS Rathore won the Silver at the last Olympics and Bronzes by  female weightlifeter K Malleswar Sydney 2000 K Jhadhav Mens Wrestling 1952 Helsinki ,  and Lander Paes Tennis 1996 Atlanta Games.

25 year old Abhinav Bindra hails from Chandigarh. He studied at the Doon School, Dehradun till 10th standard and then attended St. Stephens School, Chandigarh <>

Proud parents are Dr A S Bindra and Babli Bindra,  who have supported his talent and passion throughout his young carer, sending him for specialized coaching abroad and elsewhere in India.

placing 11th

Since then he did spectacularly well with six gold medals at international meets in 2001 and won a Gold (Pairs) and Silver (Individual) In the 10 m Air rifle at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, Manchester.

At the 2004 Olympic Games, he finished seventh after a good start, At the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games, he won the Gold (Pairs) and the Bronze (Individual)

Abhinav suffered a serious back injury and had to miss the 2006 Asian Games. In 2006 he won the ISSF World Shooting Championships

Abhinav has been decorated many times by the Givernment of India and Sports authorities, with the Arjuna award in 2000 and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 2001

Abhinav Bindra holds an M.B.A. (Masters in Business Administration). He is the CEO of Abhinav Futuristics, a PC games peripherals distributor based in Chandigarh.
