GANDHI DAY Huge success with 200+
attendees of ALL AGE groups
Milpitas, CA
The World Non Violence Peace Day was a resounding success with over 200
people gracing the Milpitas Library.
With an emphasis on community building, Educations and inculcating
vales in Youth and children, the Gandhi day Celebrations were
everything that was promised and a long line of participants waited to
convey the same sentiments.
With all age groups represented, from children as yung as 3 years
old taking part in fancy dress and speeches, some of the other pwerful
messages wer delivered by at least three Senior citizens- with their
experiences pre Independence of India and reliving their memories of
being influenced by Mahatma Gandhi when he was alive.
" We have this celebration in bringing the legcay of Gandhi and
the spirit of Non violence, Peace, Tolerance, Community Service and
Youth Leadership" said Sam Rao, AJ singh, Mohinder Khanna and other
coordinators of the event.
With the theme in mind, the event was conducted by High School students
Ms. Kosha Kumar, SumeedBhattacharya and Sandeep Billakota, with active
help from others.
Over 35 kids took part in a special segment of Fancy dress Up
featuring a skit on the life of Gandhi by students of Genius kids ,
while young pre schoolers from Safari Kids performed couple of songs.
While songs and dances were being performed, others in the audience
actively took part, with speeches and quotes on Peace etc by a wide
range of Men, Women and Children ranging from participants whose
Birthdates were year 1931 ( pre Independence) to some who were born
post 2000!
Displays by MAITRI- ADv prevention and womens empowermment
agency, Safari kids, and submissions of art work and crafts adorned the
sides, while International artist Tanya Momi also displayed her stylle
of paintings for the occassion.
"With active participation and help by wide ranging age groups, a
variety of Art, Music, dance, song and inspirational speehces in many
languages- the event which was conducted by Youth- completely fulfilled
the theme of the event. We are all happy that this was embraced by the
community " said organizers.
